Group Therapy

Compassion toward ourselves is a skill that we can practice. It takes time and support, and our goal with this therapy group is to create an environment where you will have both.

Learning self-compassion may help if you:

  • think really poorly of yourself, or would even say you hate yourself
  • put a lot of pressure on yourself to do everything perfectly
  • have a hard time receiving love, affection, gifts, or compliments from others
  • dislike whatever you make when you do something creative
  • have self-esteem that teeter-totters, high when things are good and extremely low when things are bad
  • feel shame whenever you think of your mistakes
  • have a difficult time managing your emotions
  • feel exhausted and confused when left alone with your thoughts

Details

This is a virtual group that meets on Google meet, led by Kate Kiker, LPC-Associate. It is offered at $10/session. It runs on a revolving schedule about every two months, and so if you have missed the last start date there will be another soon!

Kate has followed research on self-compassion for many years and has put this group together using the Mindful Self-compassion Program by Christopher Germer and Kristin Neff, lead researchers in the field, as well as her own clinical experience.

It is 5 weeks of hour long sessions with other group members where we will do group exercises, meditations, journal reflections, all with interventions meant to address self-compassion. If you do join, you will be expected to attend each week, though there is no penalty if you must miss a session.

Group Member Requirements

  • Be 18 or older
  • Be able to respect group members confidentiality
  • Be able to consistently attend
  • Be able to be open with emotional content, and willingness to connect and share with group members

Fill out the form below and Kate will call or email to see if you would be a good fit for the group. There will be some paperwork to fill out and then a calendar link will be sent for you to join the google meet.
